A method for the determination of glutamine in cerebrospinal fluid and the results in hepatic coma.

چکیده
The free amino-acids normally present in cerebrospinal fluid are leucine, valine, alanine, glycine, serine, and glutamine. The concentration of each amino-acid is much less than that found in plasma, with the exception of glutamine, which is in higher concentration in the cerebrospinal fluid. Walshe (1951) examined the cerebrospinal fluid of three patients in hepatic coma by paper chromatography and found an excess of glutamine. This important observation suggested that if a simple method for the quantitative determination of the glutamine content of the cerebrospinal fluid could be developed, such an estimation might prove valuable in the differential diagnosis of cases of hepatic

Citrulline as a diagnostic parameter and a major amino acid constituent of cerebrospinal fluid in hepatic coma.
Free amino acids of cerebrospinal fluid and serum in hepatic coma have been studied. Citrulline was found to form about 80% of the total free amino acids in cerebrospinal fluid, whereas serum contained slightly higher levels of tyrosine, methionine, phenylalanine and glutamine. The higher level of citrulline in cerebrospinal fluid may be attributed to the inhibition of argininosuccinic acid syn...
متن کاملIdentification of a-Ketoglutaramate in Rat Liver, Kidney, and Brain RELATIONSHIP TO GLUTAMINE TRANSAMINASE AND w-AMIDASE ACTIVITIES*
The presence of cY-ketoglutaramate was shown in rat liver, kidney, and brain by application of an isotope dilution procedure; concentrations of 7.6, 4.7, and 10.7 pmoles per kg were found, respectively. The finding of increased concentrations of cu-ketoglutaramate in cerebrospinal fluid in patients with hepatic coma was verified. Studies on rat kidney preparations, together with other considera...
متن کاملImproved assay for spinal fluid glutamine, and values for children with Reye's syndrome.
We describe a simple assay for spinal fluid giutamine, in which glutaminase is used to deaminate glutamine and the liberatedammonia is then measured with phenol hypochlorite. The concentration of glutamine in spinal fluid is increased in coma of hepatic origin. Spinal fluid glutamine was increased above normal at the time of admission in 20 of 27 cases of Reye’s syndrome, of which hepatic dysfu...
متن کاملDetermination of Antibiotic Resistance Pattern of Bacteria Isolated from Blood, Cerebrospinal Fluid, and Urine Samples in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Ali Asghar Hospital, Iran during 2013-15
Background: Infections are one of the most important causes of death in infants, especially in developing countries. Inappropriate use and administration of antibiotics can contribute to the resistance and spread of infection. In this study, we determined the antibiotic resistance pattern of the bacteria isolated from clinical samples of blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and urine in the neonatal int...
متن کاملDevelopment of an RP-HPLC-UV method for simultaneous detection of nimodipine and its metabolite in cerebrospinal fluid of rat
A rapid, simple and reproducible HPLC method was developed and validated for the analysis of nimodipine (NM) and/or its metabolite, oxidized nimodipine (OX–NM) in rat cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and artificial CSF. The NM and OX–NM were eluted in less than 10 min with no interferences from the endogenous CSF peaks. Analysis was carried out on a Eurospher Performance (RP-C18, 250 × 4.6 mm) column ...
